It just took me three days to commit a couple of patches to [xmonad] (http://xmonad.org/) because
it wasn’t obvious what I should commit. My change was miniscule when it was just a change to the mainline code, but substantiall larger as a “contributed plugin”. There was no mention of when one would be preferred over the other. So I did both.

Surely there’s a better way than this?
